RANZCO Study Scholarships for 2009
The College, together with industry, awards scholarships to final year trainees and to new Fellows in their first five years of Fellowship to assist them with further study. The applications for scholarships are judged against a set of criteria by a panel consisting of the College President, the Censor-in-Chief, and one other Fellow. Scholarships are announced and presented at the Annual Scientific Congress each year.
Applications are invited from Senior Trainees or Young Fellows for the following Study Scholarships to start in 2009; recipients of previous scholarships are ineligible to receive a second award.
RANZCO/Alcon Scholarship
One scholarship valued at $10,000 to enable a Trainee Associate Member to spend his/her final year of training at an overseas institution.
RANZCO/Allergan Scholarships
Two scholarships, valued at $10,000 each, are available to enable recipients to undertake further post-graduate study in ophthalmology.
RANZCO/Bausch and Lomb Scholarship
One scholarship valued at $10,000 to enable a New Fellow (within the first five years of qualifying) to undertake further post-graduate study in Australia or overseas.
RANZCO/Advanced Medical Optics Scholarship
One scholarship valued at $15000 to enable the recipient to undertake further post-graduate studies.
RANZCO/Pfizer Scholarships
Two scholarships valued at $10,000 each to enable the recipient to undertake further post-graduate studies.
RANZCO/Device Technologies Scholarship
One scholarsip valued at $10,000 to enable the recipient to undertake further post-graduate studies
To apply for a study scholarship please send 4 copies of your application to the College offices by 20 October 2008.

Applications for a scholarship must be no longer than 6 pages and include the following information:
1. Outline of the course of study.
2. Confirmation of acceptance by the host institute for the study.
3. A CV including qualifications and experience, relevant research and publications.
4. Expected benefits to the applicant and ophthalmology in Australia and New Zealand.
5. Written reports from two referees.
Please also include a covering letter summarising your application and indicating your contribution to the ophthalmic profession and/or society.
Judging criteria
In making their decision the judging panel will consider the following criteria:
Within six months of completing the scholarship the recipient is required to write a report for the College journal. A copy of this report will also be sent to the sponsor.
