The New CPD Framework & Criteria for Compliance
In 2004 the RANZCO Board made the decision that participation in CPD activities was a condition of College Fellowship. Recognising this, the CPD Committee has tried to make the new framework as simple and relevant as possible. As always, improving outcomes for patients is the focus of CPD activities.
The CPD framework for the 2006-2008 triennium has been simplified to just three competency-based categories. Within each category, Fellows can now record activities at 2 levels.
Category 1: Clinical Expertise
Category 2: Risk management, and
Category 3: Professional Values
- Level 1 activities include those activities concerned with the acquisition of knowledge.
- Level 2 activities are more concerned with the application of knowledge and skills.
Fellows need to clock 150 points per triennium. These do not have to be gained pro rata. However, fellows need to complete and record activities in ALL THREE CATEGORIES, INCLUDING A MINIMUM OF 30 POINTS AT LEVEL 2 IN THE AREA OF CLINICAL EXPERTISE.
Fellows are encouraged to complete a Personal Development Plan (PDP) to help them identify and plan their CPD activities. Each PDP plan is allocated 5 points at level 2 under Category 3.
