Eye Research in Australia and New Zealand

by cwotton — — — last modified 2007-06-04 19:30

The research arms of the College are: The Ophthalmic Research Institute of Australia (ORIA) and Save Sight Society of NZ Inc.

The main activity of the ORIA is to use its invested funds to disburse research grants throughout Australia. Applications for research grants are independently reviewed for merit and only the highest quality research proposals are considered for grants.

Applications from New Zealand are assessed in this common process but funded by New Zealand monies by the Save Sight Society. New Zealand applications are to be sent direct to the Save Sight Society (see contact details below).

The ORIA also provides a facility for other organizations to direct research monies to particular research areas, eg glaucoma etc.

The College annually provides research grants and other funding to the ORIA and to the Save Sight Society for disbursement and the RANZCO Eye Foundation also provides money to the ORIA. Individuals can also contribute direct to the ORIA or, in New Zealand, to the Save Sight Society.

For further information, visit the ORIA website, or contact Ms Anne Snape, Executive Officer on +61 2 8394 5218.
