The Eye Foundation
Resources for Eyecare
The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists has set up The Eye Foundation which was formally incorporated in October 2002.
The Eye Foundation aims to become the leading funder for the identification, prevention and treatment of eye disease in Australia and New Zealand by providing funds for research and by striving for continual improvements in access to ophthalmologic care in rural and remote areas in Australia and other pan-Asian nations.
The mission of the the Eye Foundation is to reduce avoidable blindness and visual impairment by raising community awareness and facilitating eye care and funding research.
Initially the Foundation continued with the "Gift of Sight Society" as its fund-raising arm. This proved confusing with apparently two fund-raising organisations, one called the "Gift of Sight Society" and the other "The Foundation". The Board took the decision to cease using the name "Gift of Sight Society". From now on, all activities will be conducted in the name of the Eye Foundation. The Eye Foundation has been granted Deductible Gift Recipient status and all donations over $2 are tax deductible.
