An overview of the College Committees

TRAINING:

Qualification and Education Committee (QEC):
The QEC is the governing body of the College’s training systems.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Committee:
The CPD Committee designs and manages the College’s CPD program.

Overseas Trained Specialist (OTS) Committee:
The OTS Committee is responsible for assessing the medical and ophthalmic standards of competence and safety of overseas trained specialists to work in the Australian and New Zealand workforce.

Board of Examiners:
The Board of Examiners comprises experienced Fellows who conduct summative examinations for trainees in the ophthalmic sciences and in advanced written and clinical competencies.

MEMBERS:

Membership Committee:
The Membership Committee considers applications for membership and makes recommendations to Council.

STANDING COMMITTEES:

Appeals Committee:
The Appeals Committee is an ad hoc Committee that follows the established appeals process to hear and determine appeals on decisions made on behalf of the College by any committee or individual lodged as a last resort after the College has exhausted all other avenues of consideration.

Archives Committee:
The Archives Committee serves to assist in ensuring the preservation and promotion of the history of the College.

Audit Committee:
The Audit Committee provides advice and assistance to the RANZCO Board including internal accounting and financial control systems, internal and external audits, financial statements and reporting processes and investment policy.

Editorial Committee:
The Editorial Committee is responsible for the publication and editorial content of the College’s scientific journal.

Health Policies Committee:
The Health Policies Committee provides advice to the Board on medico-political issues.

Human Research Ethics Committee:
The Research Ethics Committee (registered with the National Health & Medical Research Council) is responsible for ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and College policies and procedures in relation to clinical trials and research conducted in private practices. Please contact RANZCO office direct for information regarding guidelines for submissions and relevant documentation required.

Human Resources Committee:
The Human Resources Committee’s role is to provide advice and assistance to the Board in the matters of human resources, remuneration and performance evaluation of senior staff.

Indigenous & Rural Health Committee:
The Indigenous & Rural Health Committee addresses issues in relation to indigenous and rural eye health.

Industry Liaison Committee:
The Industry Liaison Committee’s role is to address broad issues of the support from industry for ophthalmic research and education and to develop guidelines, policies or procedures for sponsorship.

Medicare Advisory Committee (Formerly Anomalies Committee):
The principal role of the Medicare Advisory Committee is to manage issues associated with items on the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS).

Medico-Legal Committee:
The Medico-Legal Committee recommends to the Board the accreditation of College members as expert witnesses and provides advice on matters relating to the medico-legal issues associated with expert witness panels and standards of practice.

Program Committee:
The Program Committee plans and develops the scientific programs of the Annual Scientific Congresses.

Therapeutics Committee:
The Therapeutics Committee provides advice on drugs and other therapeutic substances used by ophthalmologists in clinical practice.

Visual Standards Committee:
The Visual Standards Committee provides advice on the standards of visual acuity, visual fields and colour perception required for particular occupations, activities or specialised environments.
